Fellowships

The foundation offers fellowships to licensed ministers of the anglican communion with the aim of enhancing the skills and experience of innovative church leaders and theological educators.

Each year the Foundation offers several Fellowships to individual church leaders and theological educators with a genuine interest and commitment to forming the next generation of lay and ordained theological educators and church leaders.

The Foundation will help fund projects or courses of study

with a one-off grant up to a maximum of £3,000 for a specific purpose or initiative.

Applicants should note that the awards are not renewable.

Fellowships are offered to any person, ordained or lay, who holds a Bishop’s licence within a Province of the Anglican Communion recognised by the Anglican Consultative Council. Their aim is to enhance the skills and experience of innovative church leaders and theological educators. Our priorities are to offer support for the following initiatives:

  • Professional Development - funding for the professional development for a church leader in the Majority World.

  • Teaching between Provinces - funding for a theologian or theological educator from one Province to spend time teaching in another Province.

  • Course of study – a contribution towards funding for a licensed minister (lay or ordained) undertaking a specific course of study with a defined outcome or output. We encourage applications before the course of study has commenced.

  • Writing, Mentoring or Study Leave - funding towards aid writing towards publication, a period of focused work consultancy or a mentoring project; or towards a study leave with clearly defined outcomes.

  • A proposed project that fits the overall purpose of a Fellowship but does not match any of these.

Applicants will need to outline the purpose of the Fellowship, articulate their commitment to forming the next generation of lay and ordained theological educators and church leaders, and explain the relevance and value of the project to the ministry and mission of the wider Church.

Before making a formal application it is important to read carefully the Guidance Notes for Fellowship Applications at the end of the Application Form.

Applications will require the full endorsement of the applicant’s Diocese or Province and applicants will be required to outline the arrangements in place for their own mentoring during their course of study.

Normally, only one Fellowship will be awarded in any year to the same Diocese or Province. The Foundation will expect successful applicants to be available to mentor and support future generations of St Augustine’s Fellows.

The closing date for applications is 1st December each year with the decision being known by 31st May the following year.
